Taper Attachment for Screw Cutting Engine
Lathes.
Made by Flather & Co.,
Nashua, N.H.
The cut above
reprsents a 15-inch lathe with taper attachment on the back of bed.
All sizes
of Flather Engine Lathes can be furnished with this taper attachment. This
attachment does not interfere with the ordinary opera. tion of turning
or screwcutting. By it, tapers can be turned on both outside and inside
work, without setting the lathe centres out of line. It can be instantly
connected or disconnected. The guide-bar is adjustable and is graduated,
and has a movement from zero to 3 inches per foot. It is supported by three
brackets, and is pivoted on the centre one. The brackets all move on slides
that are cast on back of bed, and can be used at any point on the length
of bed. The slide travelling in a longitudinal groove in guide-bar is connected
with cross-screw in front of lathe by a rod that goes through a hole that
is drilled out of solid the whole width of carriage. This arrangement insures
a very solid and stiff attachment.
